Music Therapy for Asperger's Syndrome

Music Therapy is a powerful tool for people with Asperger's Syndrome. People with this diagnosis suffer from deficiencies in social skills, transitioning and communication. This unique treatment encourages development in all of these areas. Music is a non-verbal, non-threatening way of relating to others, and provides a means for communication. Music Therapy provides multi-sensory stimulation through visual, auditory and tactile experiences and can enhance sensory processing. Musical elements such as beat, rhythm and musical patterns provide the consistency, and structure where a person with Asperger's Syndrome can feel comfortable. A Music Therapist will use client-preferred music to create a familiar environment where the person with Asperger's Syndrome can succeed.

By using Music Therapy to help grow under developed social or communication skills in your child, you are giving them an opportunity to be impacted on a deep emotional level. Music Therapy instills confidence and love into your child, in which both help build a strong foundation for your child to succeed.

Our music therapists may work on speech through a variety of vocal exercises and repeated phrases. The Music Therapy activities your child will take part in may help develop emotional expression through music, and singing to increase speech development or therapeutic instrument instruction. Music is a language that most everyone can understand; it provides enjoyment, instant gratification, and a sense of achievement.
